Spielberg weaves the plot with great sensitivity and narrates it like a magician by providing great emotional depth to all the characters, including the alien, while also putting considerable emphasis on childhood without losing any of the film’s steady pace. The screenplay is nicely written with each of its characters given enough time to develop, acquaint & connect with the viewers but the most astonishing & heartwarming part about the script is just how beautifully it captures the innocence & beauty of childhood.
Cinematography is undeniably awesome. Throughout its runtime, the camera shows the world from a child’s point of view. Editing leaves no moment in the film that could be deemed unimportant to the plot. The visual effects are state-of-the-art stuff as in every Spielberg film. The robotics for E.T. is carried out really well and the crew deserves kudos for extracting such strong, emotional & heartfelt performance from E.T.. Featuring brilliant direction, mesmerizing narration, tight editing, splendid performances, inventive cinematography, great visuals & some truly iconic moments, E.T. is a magic in movie-making.
The performances by the cast is as innocent as the children in this film and shows great bonding all around. Everyone does an impressive job with their characters, & their emotional performances are highly convincing. Even E.T. manages to express itself pretty well and viewers will smile, laugh & cry with him. Also, a special mention about the score by John Williams. The soundtrack is truly one of cinema’s greatest and is the perfect collaboration between Spielberg & Williams, so far. The contribution it alone made to this film is an achievement in itself as it took the emotions & experience of this film to a whole new level of greatness and is at its finest in the final moments.
